RPG Foundation Pack - Python RPG Starter

Build a text RPG or prototype your own Python game on editable RPG systems. RPG Foundation Pack 1.0.1 is an audited starter library for developers who want source they can read, extend and integrate.

Try the included demo

Unzip, open a terminal in the package folder and run python run_demo.py. It creates a hero, accepts a quest, fights goblins, collects loot, equips gear, buys potions, completes the quest and verifies a save/reload. Optional installation includes a working rpg-foundation command.

Requirements and scope

Requires Python programming experience and Python 3.10+ syntax. Execution, tests and installation were audited on Windows with Python 3.12.14. Other Python versions, macOS and Linux were not executed in this audit. Runtime imports use only the standard library and internal modules; tests need pytest and optional installation uses setuptools.

You supply rendering, input, audio, engine adapters and your own game content. Saves work between encounters. Grid inventory uses one cell per item; shaped and station-gated crafting are unsupported. Real-time and AI modules are included as experimental reference source, outside the supported core. Dialogue/world integration is manual. Keep equipped gear in inventory and unequip it before selling or removing it. Full limits are in README and VALIDATION.md.

License and disclosure

The existing MIT license permits commercial use, modification and redistribution when its notice is preserved. Purchasing buys this packaged release, not exclusive rights or guaranteed support. This product contains AI-assisted code, documentation and geometric promotional graphics.

Passing tests do not prove the absence of every defect. The included audit report describes what was checked and what remains outside the supported scope.
