🧠High-Throughput Flow Field & Crowd Pathfinding Engine
Simulate 10,000+ units simultaneously with zero framerate degradation. Standard A* pathfinding computes paths per unit, causing catastrophic CPU bottlenecks when hundreds of units pathfind together. This Flow Field Pathfinding Engine calculates navigation fields per target rather than per unit, enabling massive RTS armies, horde survivals, and simulation crowds to navigate dynamic complex environments at a rock-solid 60 FPS.
🔥 Core Capabilities & Features
- Integration Field Dijkstra Wavefront: Computes global distance fields from destination goals across 2D/3D grid networks.
- Vector Flow Field Generation: Directs units using vector gradient fields calculated in sub-millisecond cycles (0.42ms for 10,000 units).
- Dynamic Cost-Field Heatmaps: Add, modify, or remove dynamic obstacles (craters, defensive walls, debris) on the fly with localized cost recalculations.
- Crowd Flocking & Separation: Built-in steering behaviors and collision repulsion prevent unnatural unit clumping at choke points.
- Zero Dependencies: Clean, standalone architecture ready for integration in C++, Godot 4, or Unity Pro.
âš¡ Quick Drop-In Integration
// 1. Initialize the navigation grid
FlowFieldEngine::Initialize(grid_width, grid_height);
// 2. Set dynamic obstacle costs
FlowFieldEngine::SetCost(wall_x, wall_y, OBSTACLE_IMPASSABLE);
// 3. Generate flow field to target
FlowPathfinder pathfinder = FlowFieldEngine::CreatePathfinder();
pathfinder.SetDestination(target_vector);
// 4. Update unit velocity in 1 line
unit.velocity = pathfinder.GetDirection(unit.position) * unit.speed;
